Terms of Agreement

I understand and agree to the following:

All information and recommendations contained in this course have been compiled from sources believed to be reliable and to represent the best current opinion on the subject.

The curriculum provides opportunities for me to identify safety strategies to improve my driving behavior. However, no warranty, guarantee, or representation is made by AARP as to the absolute correctness or sufficiency of any representation contained in this program and AARP assumes no responsibility in connection therewith; nor can it be assumed that all acceptable safety measures are contained in the publication or that other or additional measures may not be required under particular or exceptional conditions or circumstances.

I may or may not receive an automobile insurance discount in my state or by my insurance company, and it is my responsibility to check with my automobile insurance company/agent to see if an automobile insurance discount applies for the AARP Smart Driver™ online course in my particular situation and to supply my insurance company with the documentation that I am entitled to an automobile insurance discount.

AARP has incorporated into this program certain measures to ensure my identity as the sole user of this program. I will be the only person who participates in and completes this online course, including any applicable quizzes and tests, and any misrepresentation of identity may comprise insurance fraud and may subject me to penalties in my state.

INFORMATION PERTAINING TO COURSE CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

Residents of California, Louisiana and Nevada: I understand my certificate of completion will be received at the address supplied by me during registration and within fifteen (15) days after SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of the program at no charge, unless I select a faster method of delivery for an additional charge.

Residents of all other states and US territories: I understand my certificate of completion will be available to digitally download and print, after SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION of the program.

INFORMATION PERTAINING TO TIME I WILL BE AFFORDED TO COMPLETE THE COURSE

Residents of Connecticut: I understand I have thirty (30) days from the date of registration to cancel my participation in this program and request that a refund be credited to my credit card. I am aware that refunds cannot be issued after the course completion certificate has been processed. All refunds will be issued within 30 days following receipt of a permissible request for cancellation. I have thirty (30) days from the date of registration in which to complete this course.

Per Sec. 5. Section 38a-683-40 of the state of Connecticut regulation of the Department of Motor Vehicles, registrants for an online accident prevention course must successfully complete the entire course within 30 days or registration in order to receive credit and a certificate of accident prevention course completion.

Residents of all other states and US territories: I understand I have sixty (60) days from the date of registration to cancel my participation in this program and request that a refund be credited to my credit card. I am aware that refunds cannot be issued after the course completion certificate has been processed. All refunds will be issued within 30 days following receipt of a permissible request for cancellation. I have sixty (60) days from the date of registration in which to complete this course.

INFORMATION SPECIFIC TO RESIDENTS OF FLORIDA

All information and recommendations contained in the AARP Smart Driver online course have been compiled from sources believed to be reliable and to represent the best current opinion on the subject. These include various research reports, the AARP Edition 6 Online Driver Safety Course, AAMVA Model Driver's License Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the Florida Driver's Handbook and the 2013 Florida Statutes, Title XXIII Motor Vehicles, Chapter 316, State Uniform Traffic Control. All content was reviewed by members of the National Older Driver Safety Expert Panel, who supported and served as advisors to the project. In addition to advising on course content, the Expert Panel helped identify technological innovations in cars and provided insight on best practices in adult safety education from around the world. The Expert Panel consisted of members from a number of organizations, including: the American Occupational Therapy Association; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Center for Translational Research on Aging and Mobility at the University of Alabama at Birmingham; the Federal Highway Administration; Governors Highway Safety Association; The Hartford Center for Mature Market Excellence; the Institute for Mobility, Activity and Participation at the University of Florida; the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; MIT AgeLab; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; the Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center; the University of Iowa Aging Mind and Brain Initiative; the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System; the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute; and Yale University, School of Medicine.

I understand that the AARP Smart Driver online course is recognized as an approved accident prevention course for drivers 55 years of age and older by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Insured drivers 55 years of age or older may be eligible for an appropriate reduction in automobile insurance premium charges good for three years after completing this course. Please check with your insurance company or agent for any additional requirements for eligibility.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recognizes the right of private enterprises to advertise and distribute information related to their business functions. DMV promotes the free exchange of information, ideas, and opinions, except when the content may invade personal privacy, violate property rights, constitute libel, or be a violation of any applicable federal, state, or local laws.
